Hamburg, Germany, has a long tradition of handling energy sources. In the past, this mainly involved fossil fuels, but this has changed recently, as the Port of Hamburg will play an important role in Germany’s security of supply. We are now intensively involved in the handling and production of alternative energies. The Hamburg Senate has created the best conditions for this.
The Energy Transition
Over the course of the year, the port has adopted a new development plan, defining a specific area in the Port of Hamburg as an energy hub. This area will primarily be used to handle and produce alternative energies. Hydrogen and its derivatives are to play a central role here. In regions where a lot of energy from renewable sources is available, the hydrogen can be produced and transported to us. The Port of Hamburg is ideally equipped for the energy transition and can make a major contribution to greater environmental protection.
