Neste invests €400 million for Porvoo refinery maintenance

Neste will conduct a nine-week maintenance turnaround at its Porvoo refinery, Finland, to strengthen the plant’s safety, availability and competitiveness. The works will occur between August-October 2026 and are supported by an investment of €400 million from the company.

The turnaround will look specifically at tasks that involve shutdown, such as statutory inspections, routine maintenance and asset improvement, with European experts in specialist fields, such as catalyst professionals, being utilised.

To ensure supply is uninterrupted, goods have been produced and stored in advance; Kilpilahti port and the Porvoo distribution terminal will operate as normal throughout the turnaround.

Jim Holmbäck, director of Turnarounds at Neste, comments: ‘This is a major project with a total estimated cost of over €400 million. A total of around 7,500 people will participate in the work. Around 1,000 of them are Neste’s own employees, and the rest are experts from more than a hundred different contractor companies. Over 80% of the selected contractor companies are Finnish.’
