Three subsidiaries of French infrastructure firm Vinci have won a €200 million engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to build a 190,000 m3 LNG tank at the Grain LNG terminal in the UK.
Grain LNG, which is owned by the UK National Grid, is the largest LNG terminal in Europe. The new tank, to be built by Entrepose Contracting, VINCI Construction Grands Projets and Taylor Woodrow, will form part of an expansion at the site. Grain LNG recently signed a new 25-year deal for storage and redelivery capacity from mid-2025 with Qatar Terminal Limited (QTL).
The new, full-containment tank will have a 9% nickel steel inner tank with a pre-stressed concrete outer shell, poured in-situ using slipforming. Vinci expects the work to continue until June 2025.
Vinci says that the contract shows that it ‘is recognised for its capacity to meet the expectations of major players in the sector and confirms its leading position in the design-build of large-scale cryogenic storage tanks in any type of environment.’
