Uniper delivers first LNG cargo at Wilhelmshaven

Uniper has delivered Germany’s first full cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to its new LNG energy terminal in Wilhelmshaven. 

The LNG Ship Maria Energy, owned by Tsakos Energy Navigation, a major energy mover, was loaded in Calcasieu Pass, USA, at the liquification facility of the energy supplier Venture Global Calcasieu Pass, on 19 December 2022. 

The ship was fully loaded with approximately 170,000m3 of LNG – enough to supply around 50,000 German households with energy for one year. 

The LNG cargo delivered onboard forms part of the commissioning process at the Wilhelmshaven terminal, with commercial operations expected to start in mid-January 2023. 

Niek den Hallander, Uniper CCO says: ‘The successful delivery of the first full energy cargo to the Uniper terminal, at Wilhelmshaven, is a testament to the strong partnership between Uniper, Venture Global, and Tsakos Energy Navigation. The use of energy as a reliable energy source is crucial for the security of supply for Germany, in Europe. We are committed to contributing our part by bringing more LNG to the European market and especially Germany via the Wilhelmshaven and Brünsbuttel  Regas terminals.’
