Michiel Flier, terminal manager at Koole Tankstorage Botlek, tells Tank Storage Magazine how the facility aims to play a leading role in future fuels.
Koole Tankstorage Botlek (KTB) is located at the Port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and is one of Europe's largest and most diverse and complex storage terminals at Europe's biggest port. Koole Terminals bought the facility from Odjfell about five years ago and has invested into growing and improving the terminal, making KTB an important facilitator in the energy transition. 'Located between two major refineries in Rotterdam, KTB is at the heart of the industry,' says terminal manager Michiel Flier. 'It's a complex and diverse terminal, which makes it a challenge to run.' But Koole hasn't shied away and has instead grown the terminal from strength to strength.
CONSTANT DEVELOPMENT
There are currently three large ongoing projects at KTB. 'By May 2023, we expect to start up a new part of the terminal with 100 new tanks being added over the next year, with a very high level of automation,' says Flier.
