Every year the European Commission releases a report assessing what actions need to be taken to improve the EU’s strategic position in the world.
For the first time, the Commission has assessed that it is of strategic importance to develop storage for current and future energy carriers.
‘In a shifting geopolitical environment, the EU needs to continue strengthening its resilience and open strategic autonomy in critical sectors linked to the transitions. In the energy sector, intensified efforts are needed on green energy sources, replacing our reliance on fossil fuels, while diversifying sources during the transition period. Developing stockpiling solutions and storage capacities for current and future energy carriers like renewable hydrogen would also be key.’
This is the same wording that FETSA
has been using in letters to the EU over the past year. This means that the European Commission has translated a FETSA request into the number 1 EU area of action.
