Fourth tank completed at Gate terminal

A fourth tank at Gate terminal at Maasvlakte, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, has been completed and will be commissioned from 1 October 2026. Gate is a joint venture between Gasunie and Vopak, where LNG is delivered by ship and stored temporarily in liquid form before being delivered via the gas transmission to customers in the Netherlands and other European countries.

The new tank has an LNG storage capacity of 180,000m3, with the expansion adding 4 billion m3 of regasification capacity annually and bringing Gate’s total capacity to 20 billion m3 a year.

Jarmo Stoopman, managing director at Gate terminal, comments: ‘With the commissioning of this fourth tank, we achieve an important milestone. Gate is expanding its capacity and strengthening its role as a strategic gateway for the energy supply of the Netherlands and Northwest Europe. The ability to supply LNG from various parts of the world helps Europe further diversify its energy supply and enhances security of supply.’
