PRIMED FOR SUCCESS

Mascoat introduces two new primers for use under thermal insulating coatings Protecting substrates on storage tanks from corrosion is of utmost importance to facilities of all kinds, as the consequences of not doing so can be detrimental. That protection has been a driving factor in Mascoat’s approach to the market since its inception in 1995. The company manufactures and sells products that offer true thermal insulation, but in a coating form. By adhering directly to the primer or surface, there is no internal environment in which moisture can ingress and begin the corrosion under insulation (CUI) process. The coatings are applied anywhere from 40 mils (1 mm) up to 200 mils (5 mm), which is a substantial barrier. This unique approach allows for protection for more than 25 years, as evidenced by Mascoat’s extensive application history in areas around the world that are conducive to corrosion issues, like the US Gulf Coast. The company headquarters is located in Houston, Texas, and knows first-hand the damage that humidity and storms can cause in industrial environments. Insulating coatings are primarily water-based, meaning they require a primer when applied to steel to...
