Briggs Marine provides waterfront services to Stanlow Terminals in the UK. The two companies tell Tank Storage Magazine why outsourcing is the best option StanloW terminals (STL) is the biggest independent tank terminal storage company in the UK. It has two sites in the northwest of England, in Stanlow on the Manchester Ship Canal, and in Tranmere on the River Mersey. The two sites between them have 241 tanks with a total capacity of 3 million m3. STL itself is actually quite a new company, carved out in January 2020 from Essar Oil UK, which still owns the Stanlow Refinery next door. Zara Giles, chief commercial officer at STL, explains that Essar realised that there were a lot of unutilised assets onsite which could be more profitably used, particularly with the upcoming energy transition, which will be a huge change for the industry, and the potential to store new and different types of fuels and chemicals to support that. ‘Basically we’ve been set up to market all the assets not used by the refinery, for third party business.
