Walter Moone appointed new FETSA president

The Federation of European Tank Storage Associations (FETSA) has announced its new president, as Bruno Hayem, CEO of Tepsa, concludes his tenure. He will be succeeded by Walter Moone, president business unit Netherlands for Royal Vopak.

The announcement was made during FETSA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Hamburg, Germany.

During his presidency, Bruno Hayem helped guide FETSA through a period of significant transformation for Europe’s energy and storage sectors, marked by increasing geopolitical uncertainty, energy security challenges, and accelerating discussions around decarbonisation and the energy transition. Under his leadership, FETSA strengthened its role as the collective voice of Europe’s tank storage industry, building closer relationships with the European Commission and reinforcing the strategic importance of storage infrastructure for energy resilience, supply security, and industrial competitiveness.

Reflecting on his presidency, Bruno Hayem comments: 'It has been a privilege to serve as President of FETSA during such a pivotal period for our sector. Over recent years, Europe’s tank storage industry has demonstrated its resilience, adaptability, and strategic importance in supporting energy security and the transition to a lower-carbon future. I am proud of the way our members have worked together to strengthen the industry’s voice and contribute constructively to European policy discussions. I would like to sincerely thank all members, partners, and the FETSA team for their support and collaboration throughout my tenure.'

Walter Moone brings extensive international experience in storage infrastructure, energy logistics, LNG, and new energies. At Vopak, he has held a number of senior leadership positions across commercial, operational, and business development functions, including leadership roles in chemicals, LNG, and strategic infrastructure projects. As incoming president, Walter Moone will lead FETSA at a time when Europe continues to navigate geopolitical instability, evolving energy markets, and the need for resilient and diversified infrastructure.

Commenting on his appointment, Moone says: 'Taking on the presidency of FETSA is a meaningful step for me personally. Europe's energy and feedstock landscape has changed fundamentally. Geopolitical tensions, shifting supply chains, and the energy transition are all reshaping what Europe produces, imports, and consumes. Through it all, tank storage remains indispensable: it is not a passive part of the system, it is what makes the system work. FETSA has a vital role to play in ensuring policymakers fully recognise the strategic value of our sector. I look forward to working closely with our members, board members and other stakeholders and stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and help build a secure, competitive, and resilient energy future for Europe.'

FETSA would like to thank Bruno Hayem for his leadership, dedication, and contribution to the association and the wider tank storage industry, and warmly welcomes Walter Moone as the Federation’s new president.
