GTT receives ethane storage tank order

GTT’s partner China Chengda Engineering has placed an order for the design of an ethane full-containment membrane tank that will be situated in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China. The tank will be owned by Ningbo Union King New Material, a subsidiary of Union King Holding, who signed a strategic cooperation agreement in December 2025 with GTT.

GTT’s GST technology will be used in the tank’s creation, which enables the construction of very large storage tanks while improving thermal efficiency and optimising material usage. When installed in late 2028, the tank will have a 200,000m3 capacity, making it the world’s largest ethane storage tank. However, it will also be capable of storing other liquified gases such as propane, butane and LPG.

Adnan Ezzarhouni, general manager of GTT China, comments: ‘We are proud to contribute to this landmark project alongside Union King Holding Ltd and China Chengda Engineering Co., Ltd. The selection of GST technology for what will become the world’s largest ethane storage tank confirms the confidence placed in our membrane technology in addressing the technical challenges associated with the development of increasingly ambitious and complex storage infrastructure.

Mr Chang Wenming, the authorised representative of Union King Holding Ltd, concludes: ‘We are very pleased to formalise the initial agreement reached in December 2025 with this contract signed through Union King Holding Ltd. By adopting GTT’s membrane technology, we will benefit from optimised, very large-capacity storage with multi-gas flexibility, which will significantly strengthen our ability to meet evolving supply challenges.’
