The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) is on track to complete the next phase of the Trincomalee Oil Tank Farm rebuild in the next two years. The project includes the refurbishment of 29 oil tanks and the construction of an oil pipeline.
In 2022, CPC took ownership of 24 out of the 99 tanks at the farm, and as of August 2026, two have been renovated and tenders have been called for three more. Out of the remaining tanks at Trincomalee, 61 are owned by Trinco Petroleum Terminal – a joint venture between Sri Lanka and India – and 14 belong to Lanka IOC, a subsidiary of the Indian Oil Corporation.
Speaking to The Morning, CPC managing director Dr Mayura Neththikumarage states: ‘Requests for Proposal (RFP) for 29 tanks within the oil farm [are] ready, with approval pending from procurement committees. We are expecting that we can develop 29 tanks in two years’ time. Once the RFP is approved, we will publish it.’
