GKN Aerospace will launch a claims programme to provide up to $100 million (€85.7 million) for damages claims for residents and businesses affected by the May evacuation order, which saw community displacement following a tank overheating at GKN’s Garden Grove, CA, US, site.
As a result of the incident, the tank was permanently decommissioned and safety enhancements were enacted. GKN aims to resume manufacturing operations by 28 September 2026, subject to independently monitored, court-approved safety plans.
Eligible claimants will be able to seek compensation for costs incurred due to the evacuation, such as hotel stays, meals, transportation and loss of wages. The programme aims to open by Autumn 2026.
GKN senior vice president Steve Carlin comments: ‘This facility has been part of Garden Grove for 60 years, and the claims programme we’re announcing today reflects how seriously we take our responsibility to our neighbours. From the outset, GKN has pledged to make things right, and we appreciate the community’s patience as we worked closely with local officials to finalise the best path forward.’
