The DET Deutsche Energy Terminal has commissioned the third floating import terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG), Germany’s Federal Ministry For Economic Affairs And Energy announced on LinkedIn.

Department minister Reiche says: ‘Gas will remain of great importance for our energy supply for the foreseeable future. The opening of the second LNG terminal in Wilhelmshaven is therefore an important step towards more security of supply, diversification of energy sources and resilience of our country. It is a great success that the terminal can now go online.’

Today’s commissioning marks further progress in the construction of Germany’s LNG infrastructure. On the way to climate neutrality, LNG continues to make an important contribution to a stable energy supply in Germany, in addition to pipeline natural gas from Norway.

For the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Philipp Steinberg was on site at the opening. Steinberg has played a key role in driving the development of the LNG infrastructure and the diversification of gas imports with his department in recent years.
