Exolum has started operating a new photovoltaic plant for self-consumption of energy at its Misterton terminal in the UK. With an installed capacity of 386 kWp through 840 solar panels, the new plant aims to generate sustainable energy and reduce Exolum’s operations-related carbon emissions, as well as prevent volatility in the electricity market.
Electricity consumption is the main source of Exolum’s emissions, and the supply of energy from the solar plant will avoid 84 tonnes of CO2 being emitted into the atmosphere every year – the equivalent of planting 8,396 trees.
The project, funded by the ministry of defence (MOD), supports the MOD’s strategic approach to climate change and sustainability. Specifically, the Misterton solar park contributes to the goal of moving away from fossil fuels and working towards obtaining more sustainable energy sources.
Misterton is the fifth solar plant Exolum has installed to supply clean, sustainable energy to its infrastructure in the UK and Spain. These actions are part of Exolum’s sustainability strategy, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 53% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 in line with sustainable development goals. The strategy also includes specific projects and plans aimed at protecting biodiversity, the efficient use of natural resources and the fight against climate change.
