Tank Storage Magazine has been reporting live from Houston USA as the ILTA conference and trade show gets underway for 2023. After a keynote luncheon by Dr David Mussington, CISA, the ILTA team announced the winners of this year’s Safety Excellence Awards.

PLATINUM SAFETY: SMALLER COMPANY CATEGORY

The Colonial Pipeline Company

Zach Hauser, Senior Manager Terminal Operations, accepted the award on behalf of Colonial Pipeline. He said that while Colonial is new to terminals, its not new to pipelines. ‘We are so happy to enter the terminals market in addition to being in the pipeline industry,’ he said. Colonial Pipeline is working with a safety-first mindset. The team had been building a green fuel terminal whilst working towards this award. ‘Events like this are really special and where there are talks where we can share our lessons learnt and become better operators. Growing of the business the last couple of years would not have been possible without the hard work of all the teams at the company,’ said Hauser.

PLATINUM SAFETY: LARGER COMPANY CATEGORY

Kinder Morgan

Dean McInnis accepted Kinder Morgan’s award, saying: ‘On behalf of 2,700 employees across the US, thank you. We have been part of ILTA since 2009, and have really looked at our safety performance. Covid played a significant part in pulling our teams closer together, in the challenges lay the the opportunities. ILTA have really helped over the last several years.’
