In the early part of 2023, three government-approved LNG import terminals are expected to commence commercial operations in the Philippines. This announcement marks the beginning of the country’s liquified gas industry.
The three terminals are the start of six projects approved by the DOE. The following three projects are due to come online in the next three years and are to include a project proposed by Shell.
Imports of LNG will be needed to fuel gas-fired power plants with a combined estimated capacity of more than 3,000 megawatts. In addition, a project head by AG&P will source its LNG from the Middle East and Australia, and the terminal will have a capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum. This will fuel the existing 1,200-MW Ilijan power plant in the Batangas province.
