TotalEnergies has officially inaugurated the production of SAF in Antwerp (Belgium). The ceremony took place in the presence of Belgium’s Federal Minister for Mobility, Climate and Environmental Transition Jean-Luc Crucke.

The TotalEnergies refinery in Antwerp produces, in a first phase, 50,000 tonnes per year of SAF by co-processing. Production capacity will then be increased to 80,000 tonnes per year.

Minister Jean-Luc Crucke says: ‘The production of SAF in Antwerp is an important step in the sustainability of our aviation sector. This project shows that industrial players such as TotalEnergies are playing an active role in the transition to more sustainable mobility. Through initiatives like these, we are building together a future where sustainable mobility becomes the norm.’

Ann Veraverbeke, managing director of TotalEnergies in Antwerp, explains: ‘The Antwerp platform is evolving with sustainability ambitions. By offering SAF, we support airlines in achieving their climate goals. SAF reduces CO₂ emissions from air transport, and its development fits perfectly into our climate strategy, which we are building together with society.’
