Uniper and AM Green Group have signed a landmark agreement for up to 500,000 tons of renewable ammonia per year from India, witnessed by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad, India.

According to Uniper’s LinkedIn post, the leaders expressed satisfaction about the ongoing cooperation on green hydrogen and underscored the need to align India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and Germany’s National Hydrogen Strategy through deeper collaboration. They welcomed the signing of the offtake agreement for supply of green ammonia from AM Green to Uniper. The first shipment is expected to happen as early as 2028.

The ceremony was part of the agenda of a German business delegation, underscoring the strong industrial cooperation between Germany and India. Uniper CEO Michael Lewis participated as part of this delegation.

This partnership establishes another much-needed connection between India and Europe, accelerating decarbonization for industries like chemicals, fertilizers, and shipping, representing a significant step forward in developing a diversified portfolio for Uniper.

Uniper CEO Michael Lewis comments: ‘This agreement is a key building block in our strategy to provide customers with reliable access to renewable and low-carbon molecules at scale. We are proud to help establish one of the first large-scale supply corridors between India and Europe.’
