Uniper have entered into negotiations with the UK Government to develop its Connah’s Quay Low Carbon Power project. On a post on LinkedIn, Uniper said that the government’s support for the development of carbon capture and storage infrastructure, creates the framework needed for pioneering projects like the Connah’s Quay Low Carbon Power project, and is vital for moving towards Clean Power 2030 and at the same time maintaining a secure electricity supply.

Mike Lockett, UK country chair at Uniper says: ‘It was my pleasure to welcome to site Industry Minster, Sarah Jones MP, and Sir Mark Tami MP to give an overview of the vital role the current power station plays in providing reliable, flexible energy to help keep the lights on, and the potential future investment. Site manager Tony Higgins led a tour of the existing station, and Connah’s Quay Low Carbon Power project manager Helen Rogers explained our plans for the new power station with carbon capture technology.’

The Connah’s Quay site is strategically located right next door to the HyNet CO2 transport pipeline, providing the best possible opportunity for a successful CCUS cluster, and the delivery of flexible power to complement intermittent renewable generation and deliver the most cost-effective solution for Clean Power 2030.
