Geeske Steeneken, Chane’s learning and development lead, speaks to Tank Storage Magazine about the company’s training resources to support its workforce
Four years ago, Chane decided that, for the wider benefit of employees, it was crucial to be trained in-house. ‘At the time, we were searching for new employees, and new hires to bring valuable experiece. The Chane Academy ensures their knowledge is tailored to the unique demands of terminal operations,’ says Geeske Steeneken, lead for learning and development at Chane. ‘Additionally, we wanted to give our people a place to continuously grow and to link training directly to our operations and culture. Whether our employees were about to work in a new environment, or it was climate or policy related issues, we decided that it was important to train them in-house.’
And so began the Chane Academy – an online learning platform – and the Chane Experience Centre – a physical space for exploration and education. ‘We have our VR environment, our library with all our hardware that is used at the terminal, as well as classrooms and teachers,’ says Steeneken. ‘We wanted to equip our employees with the skills needed...
