Fire shuts down Venezuela’s Cardon refinery

State-run oil company PDVSA, reported by Reuters, confirmed that Venezuela halted services at Cardon refinery after a fire was started by a ruptured natural gas line. Cardon refinery has a 310,000 barrels per day capacity.

The fire was reported at around 15:25pm in the lubricants area of the refinery – part of the Paraguana Refining Complex – with firefighters and officials from Venezuela’s National Risk Management System deployed to activate safety protocols.

PDVSA said that the blaze was quickly contained and no injuries or major damage were reported. The incident is being investigated.
