Safety Culture Sets The Stage For New Generation Of Terminal Workers

As we approach the International Liquid Terminals Association Safety Awards in May 2024, a couple of factors come to the forefront... Today, there is a greater awareness among terminal operators of proactive steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of injuries, particularly serious injury. An additional factor that comes to mind is workforce development. The long-serving members of this great industry, the ones with the most experience in how to prevent injuries, are reaching retirement age. The tank storage industry will need a robust, and well-trained workforce to carry the industry forward safely and productively. For the ILTA 2023 Safety Awards programme, the association’s Health and Safety Committee updated the selection process for the Safety Excellence Award to include a focus on the company’s safety culture, measured by self- assessment of leading safety indicators. The award is also based on a company’s total recordable incident rate (TRIR) for the previous year.
