Energy Transfer announces export expansion project at Nederland Terminal

Energy Transfer will expand its ethane export capacity at Nederland (natural gas liquids) NGL Export Terminal to meet increasing customer demand. The expansion has been committed to 100% in long-term agreements running into the 2040s.

The terminal capacity will be increased by 240,000bpd, along with 55,000bpd of additional liquified petroleum gas capacity. As part of the transactions, Energy Transfer will also expand its Mont Belvieu-Nederland NGL export pipeline to aid increased refrigeration capacity, and will construct two additional NGL ship docks.

According to its press release, Energy Transfer expects the expansion project ‘to be placed into service in stages beginning in 2028. Following the anticipated completion of the additional docks in mid-2029, the refrigerated NGL export capacity at Nederland will be greater than 1.25 million bpd. Combined with the Marcus Hook NGL Export Facility capacity of 420,000bpd (post-expansion mid-2027), Energy Transfer’s total NGL refrigerated export capacity will be approximately 1.7 million bpd.’
