Major fire at Welsh oil refinery

A large fire broke out at a former oil refinery Impala Terminal in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, Wales, on Monday evening at around 5pm.

One casualty sustaining minor injuries was reported, and members of the public were asked to stay away from the area. By 9pm fire crews confirmed the fire was under control, and by Tuesday morning all emergency response crews had left the area.

A spokesperson confirmed that it was a confined fire at a decommissioned oil tank containing residual crude oil and around 60 propane and oxygen cylinders.

A fire service statement issued at 9.48pm on Monday says: ‘Dyfed-Powys Police received reports of the fire at around 5.10pm and officers attended swiftly, working alongside emergency service partners as part of a coordinated multi-agency response. Fire crews from Milford Haven, Haverfordwest, and Pembroke Dock are currently in attendance at the scene. A major incident was declared but has since been rescinded and crews are making good progress in dealing with the incident.’
