UPDATE: Chemical spill aboard vessel disrupts Port of Antwerp-Bruges

The Port of Antwerp-Bruges has released an update regarding the chemical spill at its Deurganckdok on 15 July.

Monitoring continued throughout the night of 15 July, and containers that were near the leaking one were unloaded and cleaned. By the afternoon of 16 July, operations at MPET on the east side of Deurganckdok had resumed, while clean up efforts continued on the west side.

As of the morning of 17 July, the MPET terminal on the west side of the dock has been declared safe; ships are allowed to berth and operations can continue.

The Port of Antwerp-Bruges states: ‘We would like to thank the emergency services, the companies involved and all employees for their swift and professional response in managing this incident. Our thoughts are first and foremost with the affected workers and their loved ones. Their wellbeing remains our absolute priority, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.’
