US paints and coatings company PPG has launched its PPG HI-TEMP 1027 HD corrosion-under-insulation (CUI) coating in North American markets.

The ambient-cure coating is suitable for corrosion protection on pipes, vessels and construction parts in operation, as well as protecting coated pipes, parts and assemblies in changing ambient temperature conditions, for example during shipping, with exposure to environmental conditions such as rain, snow and UV. PPG HI-TEMP 1027 HD offers dry film thickness of 10–12 mils (0.25–0.3 mm) in a one-coat application, and can withstand temperature cycles from 320˚F–1,000˚F (-196˚C–540˚C). It can also resist dry exposure with intermittent temperature peaks of up to 1,200˚F (650˚C).

‘Oil and gas, chemical processing, power generation and industries such as paper mills and steel mills rely on insulated pipelines, which are always vulnerable to corrosion-related leaks and pipe failure. Because of its hardness and resistance to thermal shock and cycling, PPG HI-TEMP 1027HD coating more effectively protects these critical assets against corrosion. This can extend maintenance intervals and minimise the risk of unexpected shutdowns,’ says Bart Martens, PPG global product manager, protective and marine coatings.
