Nigerian company Azikel Petroleum has awarded the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract for its new refinery to UAE-based global engineering services provider Chemie Tech.

The 12,000 bpd hydroskimming modular refinery will be located in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State in Nigeria. The MoU includes project management, residual process engineering, detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation, construction, testing and pre-commissioning, commissioning and performance guarantee test runs (PGTR) of the refinery on a lump sum turnkey (LSTK) basis.

Chemie Tech has been working with Azikel on the project since 2018, and has already completed the front-end engineering design (FEED) work on the refinery’s outside battery limits (OSBL) areas as well as early works on the project

Azikel Group president Dr Eruani Azibapu Godbless says that Chemie Tech’s initial works at the Yenagoa site have been ‘impressive’, creating large employment opportunities for locals, and praised the company’s competence and professionalism. He added that the refinery will be the first private hydroskimming refinery in Nigeria, and will help to further guarantee the self-sufficiency of refined petroleum products in Nigeria and reduce imports.
