Fire at Pemex offshore platform

A fire broke out on 7 July at the state-owned oil company Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) Nohoch Alfa offshore platform at the Bay of Campeche, in the Gulf of Mexico.

Fire boats spray water onto platform.Out of the 328 workers were working, 321 were evacuated with the support of seven boats. It has been reported that five people were injured, with two being critical, two fatalities and one person is still missing.

Octavio Romero Oropeza, CEO at Pemex says: ‘The incident will affect several thousand barrels of crude oil equivalent, that is, oil and gas, so Pemex will seek to quickly return to production with defined strategies.’

The fire has been controlled and Pemex are investigating the cause.
