Avenir Ascension is to become the first bunker vessel world-wide to continuously run on bio-LNG for 2025.

As of 1 April 2025, Avenir Ascension will use bio-LNG for its own propulsion. The vessel will run 100% on bio-LNG for the remainder of 2025, reducing Avenir’s CO2 emissions by more than 3,500 tonnes per year, equivalent to the annual emissions of over 2,000 passenger vehicles. As a leading owner and operator of LNG & bio-LNG bunker vessels, Avenir supports and joins the initiatives taken by many frontrunners in the industry to make maritime fuels more sustainable.

Jonathan Quinn, managing director Avenir LNG, says: ‘We are seeing a growing demand from our customers for the supply of low emission bio-LNG. We have developed a flexible and efficient supply chain to enable the cost effective delivery of Bio-LNG across North West Europe. To further demonstrate our commitment to more sustainable marine fuels we have elected to run the Avenir Ascension on bio-LNG on a voluntary basis for 2025, making a positive statement alongside our customers to reduce emissions well beyond existing regulatory requirements.’
