The footprint of a tank terminal in a local community can be substantial. Safety and environmental concerns are regular features of discussions with local populations and councils, which FETSA takes very seriously. In a hub like Rotterdam, where there is more than one tank terminal, these discussions are of added importance and tank terminals make huge efforts to comply with and even go beyond safety and environmental standards.

The next FETSA Annual Conference and AGM, will take place in Rotterdam, September/October 2021 due to COVID 19. One thing that FETSA’s Executive Director Ravi Bhatiani learnt from his time at school in the UK was that wherever we are, wherever we go, we should leave a positive mark.

When FETSA does eventually reach Rotterdam for its annual conference, it will make use of this principle by making a donation to the Krajicek Foundation. Set up by former Wimbledon tennis champion Richard Krajicek, the foundation is about ensuring a safe place within neighbourhoods for outdoor sport and play that can contribute to a better future for children and young people and a sportier, more balanced society. It sets up special playgrounds in underserved communities and deprived neighbourhoods and offers scholarships to young people who organise sports activities for children at them.

The donation will be used to fund the creation of playgrounds in Rotterdam for underprivileged children. This way, when we leave Rotterdam after our event, we know that we have left something positive behind and made a contribution to a community that is key to the success and future of our sector.
