German engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm TGE Gas Engineering has won a contract for initial engineering services for the cryogenic storage facilities of the new propane dehydrogenation (PDH) and ethane cracker units at INEOS Project ONE at the port of Antwerp, Belgium.

INEOS says that its €3 billion Project ONE development, will be the most energy efficient production site of its kind in Europe, with a carbon footprint of less than half of other olefin production sites. The ethane cracker will have an ethylene production capacity of 1.45 million tpa, while the PDH unit will have a propylene production capacity of 750,000 tpa. It is the largest investment in the European chemical industry in the past 20 years and the company hopes that the new plant will help to address recent declines in the European chemical manufacturing base. Construction work is expected to begin in 2021, with commissioning planned for 2025.

‘We recognise Project ONE as a marquee project within our industry, being the largest petrochemical sector investment in Northern European market in a generation. We are therefore proud to be involved in the define phase of this project and to continue our close working relationship with an industry leader, INEOS. The project scope of the cryogenic storage facilities, fits to our core competencies to deliver best-in-class solutions to meet our customer’s needs, says TGE CEO Thomas Wehrheim.
