Petrobras PBR has started oil production from its deepwater project offshore southeast Brazil with its largest floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) unit, Almirante Tamandaré.

This unit marks the inaugural installation of a high-capacity system in the field, generating up to as much as 225,000 barrels per day (bpd) and processing 12 million m3 of gas daily. The platform will be connected to a total of 15 wells through an underwater infrastructure network. Seven wells will be dedicated to oil production, six wells for water and gas injection, one versatile well that can function both as a producer and injector, and a single well for gas injection.

The FPSO Almirante Tamandaré is the the sixth production system within the Búzios field, and will play   a significant role in elevating the field’s output to a milestone of 1 million barrels per day (bpd), a target expected to be achieved in the second half of 2025. In the future, Búzios is projected to surpass other fields and become the largest producer for Petrobras, aiming for a production capacity of 2 million bpd by the year 2030.
