Quantem has successfully completed a significant project to add 90,000 m3 of new diesel storage capacity at its Pelican Point Terminal in Adelaide, Australia.

The $52 million (€44 million) project more than doubles Quantem’s diesel storage capacity at the site, providing vital fuel security to support critical transport and infrastructure requirements.

Amid global uncertainty impacting ongoing fuel security, the additional storage capacity is a significant boost to South Australian industries, including transport, agriculture and mining who rely on diesel for their operations.

Commencing in July 2023, the project included the design and construction of three 30,000 m3 diesel storage tanks and associated infrastructure at the site. The project was successfully completed on time and on budget.

Quantem chief executive officer Nick Moen says: ‘This project is a significant milestone in enhancing Australia’s domestic fuel security. Diesel is a critical component in Australia’s fuel and infrastructure requirements and this increased storage capacity is fundamental to enhancing the nation’s energy security. Despite the varied challenges of a project of this scale, we are very pleased to report there were no medical treatment injuries or lost time injuries which is a testament to the focus and dedication of everyone in our team involved with the project.’
