SNOC and Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) and the EDF Middle East have inaugurated Sharjah’s first utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) plant, ‘Sana’. This new facility covers a large area of 850,000 square meters and can produce 60 megawatts of energy. It is located next to the Sajaa Gas Plant.

The 60MWp ground-mounted solar PV plant is also one of the worlds first large-scale oil and gas processing facilities to meet its own electrical needs—and export surplus power—using on-site solar generation.

The plant will offset 66,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, which is equivalent to the yearly electricity consumption of 13,780 homes. It will power SNOC’s operations while exporting surplus electricity to the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) during the day. The project is a key enabler of SNOC’s net-zero journey and aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 strategy.
