Uniper’s CEO Michael Lewis has been awarded the CBE for services to Energy Security and Net Zero, in the New Year Honours list for 2025. The New Year’s Honours List recognises individuals with knighthoods, medals, and ranks like the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for their contributions to society, industry, community, or a field of work. These honours, granted by King Charles III or a royal representative, are usually announced at New Year and on the King’s birthday in June.

Lewis was appointed chief executive officer of Uniper in June 2023, and he also holds the role of chief sustainability officer (CSO). Since taking the role, he has led the implementation of the company’s new strategy, with the aim to be completely carbon-neutral by 2040.

‘I feel really honoured to be recognised for my contribution to the energy industry, with a CBE in the New Year Honours list for 2025. It’s a privilege to continue to work in the industry and lead Uniper, at this time of change. This recognition motivates all of us to continue working on our mission to ensure a reliable and increasingly greener energy supply,’ says Lewis.

Starting at Powergen plc in 1993, Lewis has had a long and distinguished career in the energy industry in the UK and Germany, holding various roles in Powergen and E.ON. Prior to joining Uniper, he held the role of CEO at E.ON UK plc for six years.
