DP World in talks with Port of Fujairah for port and container terminal

In response to the Strait of Hormuz crisis, DP World is reportedly in talks with the Port of Fujairah, United Arab Emirates (UAE), to build a new multipurpose port and container terminal, implementing a shipping route that would avoid Hormuz completely.

Despite the Strait reopening, worries about future disruption mean DP World is pursuing diversification projects, such as the new Fujairah terminal, and the UAE is reorganising its energy system to be stronger, having pumped 4.1 million bpd in June 2026, exported more crude oil through the Port of Fujairah and accelerated plans for a second pipeline from the emirate – doubling export capacity from Q1 2027.

As of 2026, the Port of Fujairah has a commercial tank storage capacity of around 18 million m3 at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone. The only current pipeline – ADNOC’s 360 km-long crude oil line – carries Murban crude from the Habshan oil fields to Fujairah and has a transmission capacity of 1.8 million bpd.
