Freeport LNG terminal closes for maintenance

Texas, US-based terminal Freeport LNG will temporarily close for two months for planned major maintenance works, meaning the overall US LNG production will drop by about 2% and there will be a notable reduction in US LNG export.

The shutdown will involve the facility’s natural gas pretreatment and liquification units, which will reduce the need for feed natural gas and consequently affect the US natural gas market and downstream industries. Despite the reduction in exports, the US maintains healthy storage levels of natural gas, providing a buffer against the decline in export-related demand.

In its social media post, Freeport LNG states: ‘Major maintenance turnaround work is planned to start 10 July at Freeport LNG’s facilities, which could result in flaring activities. The turnaround work is part of Freeport LNG’s planned major maintenance programme to continue delivering safe and reliable operations. We anticipate the turnaround work to be safety completed late next month [August 2026]. Thank you and we apologise for any inconvenience.’
