FETSA’s View: Insights from COP 28

Ravi Bhatiani, FETSA’s executive director, shares the group’s insights into the recent COP28 summit COP28 has received mixed reviews. On the one hand, according to the European Commission interpretation, the parties agreed to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels this decade, to take action to reduce emissions by 43% by 2030, and set the world on a pathway to reaching net zero emissions by 2050, in line with the best available science. On the other hand, this was not done in a convincing manner with negotiations running up to the last possible moment to agree wording on fossil fuels.
