Workers strike at French refineries

Workers in France are striking over government proposals to increase the retirement age from 62 to 64.  

TotalEnergies reported that strike action has interrupted shipments at several production sites in France, as the eurozone’s second-biggest economy continues to face widespread protests over government plans to increase the retirement age. 

A CGT union representative for TotalEnergies said strike participation across French sites was approximately 60%. Figures for Esso refinery sites, run by ExxonMobil, were not immediately available, but a union representative said there was nothing in particular planned for those sites. 

TotalEnergies confirmed that shipments were blocked at La Mede, Donges, Normandy and Dunkirk. However, the company has continued to ensure petrol stations were still supplied.
