UK firm Michael Smith Engineers has introduced two new models to its leak-free, mag-drive, Finish Thompson ULTRAChem (UC) centrifugal pumps series.

The UC436L model features smaller impeller trims to allow for lower flows and heads, while the UC3210 model has been up-rated for 2-pole motors. The 2-pole motor option operates at a higher rotation speed than the existing model and enables the pump to generate higher flows at higher heads, extending its performance range.

Additionally, Michael Smith has extended its innovative single piece snap fit impeller / inner drive magnet feature to all models in the UC range, to simplify maintenance and reduce service costs.

The UC series has been designed for the reliable pumping of hazardous and more challenging chemicals in chemical processing applications. All UC pumps have a tough, ductile iron casing and a ETFE lining for corrosion resistance. Neodymium magnets drive the impeller through a carbon filled PTFE lined barrier, and a two-piece dynamically balanced outer drive magnet with multiple pole options matches drive to motor for greater efficiency. Finish Thompson’s ‘easy-set’ mounting system allows a perfectly set magnet to ensure correct alignment. A dri-coat silicon carbide bearing/shaft option can prevent catastrophic failure in the event of short-term dry-running. The UC series also has a Kevlar reinforced barrier which reduces the air gap between driven and driving magnet to maximise magnetic power to transmission and enable maximum working pressure to be increased to 300 psi (20.7 bar).

‘These latest options and features further underline the effectiveness of ULTRAChem pumps as the ideal choice for extreme pumping applications. These typically occur in chemical manufacturing, blending and distribution, water treatment, plating and surface treatment applications, paper mills, fume scrubbers and other similar challenging situations which demand robust and reliable leak-free pumping,’ says the company.
