The maritime sector in the Netherlands is making significant strides towards sustainability with the first hydrogen bunkering license granted at the Zeehaven IJmuiden NV, Port of Ijmuiden,  town in Velsen, the Netherlands. It was announced on LinkedIn that this allows Windcat Workboats to refuel their hydrogen-powered vessel, the Hydrocat 48, marking a key development in green shipping.

This hydrogen bunkering capability is a major step forward for the ports of IJmuiden and Port of Amsterdam, contributing to North Holland’s goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2050.

The Hydrocat 48, used for transporting crews to offshore wind farms, successfully completed its hydrogen bunkering trial and will continue operations out of Oostende – the maintenance of 44 Vestas turbines for Belgian wind farm Norther. Windcat Workboats plans to expand its hydrogen-powered fleet, further advancing sustainable practices in the sector.
