Petrochemical facilities, including ports and terminals, play a crucial role in the global energy infrastructure. Most facilities handle multiple different products throughout the stages of processing, storage, and transportation of various chemicals and fuels.
With such intricate operations, there are also inherent risks that demand unwavering attention to safety. Any lapses in safety protocols can lead to catastrophic consequences, affecting not only the facility itself but also the surrounding environment and communities.
Disasters such as the BP Texas refinery fire in 2005, which caused 15 fatalities and 180 injuries, are often down to either human error or operational flaws. These two areas set a focus for facilities when it comes to establishing a safety culture.
