GAS RECOVERY – APPLICATIONS, EQUIPMENT AND TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS

In recent years, the oil and gas industry has been under a lot of pressure from environmental regulatory agencies worldwide to reduce the emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere. Among gaseous pollutants, regulatory attention has been focussed not only on the reduction of the emissions of toxic and hazardous substances, but as well on the reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases, such as methane and CO2. The development and installation of gas recovery packages has gone some way to tackling the problem. Gas recovery packages are process units aimed at recovering and re-using the gas that would otherwise be emitted to the atmosphere or destroyed in a flare or thermal oxidiser.   MIDSTREAM AND DOWSTREAM APPLICATIONS Midstream, gas recovery units recover the flash gas from heaters-treaters or separators and the crude oil stabilisation process/storage. Typical examples are the dehydration process of well gas with ethylene glycol, and the light ends (C1, C2) removal from crude oil during the stabilisation process. In refineries or petrochemical plants, flare gas recovery units recover gas that otherwise would be flared. A flare is a safety device providing safe and...
