Worley finalises the front-end engineering and design (FEED) for Alfanar’s Lighthouse Green Fuels (LGF) sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project in Teesside, UK, establishing LGF as the most mature project of its kind in Europe. LGF will produce SAF and renewable naphtha from sustainably sourced biomass feedstocks.
As part of the FEED, Worley’s engineering solution covered LGF’s feedstock handling, gasification, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, utilities, storage infrastructure and the potential integration with Teessides’s carbon capture and storage network. Alfanar targets a final investment decision by the end of 2027, with commercial operations expected by 2032.
‘Completing FEED is a defining milestone for LGF and a major step forward, not just for the project but for the UK SAF industry more broadly,’ says Noaman Al Adhami, UK country head at Alfanar.
Hicham Kabbaj, Worley’s president of Global Operations – EMEA, comments: ‘Completing FEED for the LGF project is a defining step in advancing Alfanar’s flagship SAF development toward execution. It demonstrates Worley’s ability to translate early-stage vision into a clear, deliverable pathway that enables complex, sustainable projects to progress with confidence.’
