LBC Tank Terminals announces Rainbow 5 expansion

LBC Tank Terminals advances Project Rainbow 5 Phase A through a final investment decision at its Rotterdam Terminal, adding approximately 41,000m3 of storage capacity to the terminal and taking the total capacity to 295,000m3. This advancement follows the recent commissioning of Project Rainbow 3, comprising of 36 storage tanks and a rail tank car loading station.

Rainbow 5 Phase A includes the construction of 14 storage tanks that will replace legacy assets with next-generation facilities, and a second central truck loading station. Development plans are designed to reduce environmental impact with material reuse and lower-carbon construction methods.

Frank Erkelens, CEO of LBC Tank Terminals, states: ‘The approval of Rainbow 5 Phase A marks an important next step in the development of our Rotterdam Terminal. Coming shortly after the successful delivery of Rainbow 3, it reflects our confidence in the long-term outlook for Rotterdam and our commitment to continue investing in infrastructure that supports evolving customer and market needs. As one of the first major expansion projects under MOL’s ownership, it demonstrates our shared ambition to build on LBC’s strong foundation.'

Robert van der Hoek, commercial manager of LBC Rotterdam, adds: ‘This investment underlines our confidence in the continued demand for high-quality, sustainable storage solutions in Rotterdam. By expanding our capacity and further upgrading our infrastructure, we are strengthening our ability to serve customers with greater efficiency while maintaining the highest safety standards.’
