Firefighters were called to a chemical manufacturing plant in Ulsan, South Korea, where a fire broke out on Wednesday 14 October.

Ulsan Fire Headquarters reported that the blaze was fully extinguished at 1:50pm, around four hours after it started at 9:41am. Around 7,000 workers at the nearby S-OIL Shaheen petrochemicals construction site were evacuated, as well as 12 company workers who were on-site.

The fire is believed to have started as toluene, a flammable material, was being transferred to containers, spreading to seven of the site’s 33 storage tanks full of hazardous materials.

No injuries or fatalities have been reported. Investigations from the National Forensic Service and other official organisations are ongoing.
